Always on Guard

Updated: Aug 7, 2022

Every night, just past midnight, a pack of predators approach the pasture. These coyotes come in packs during the cover of night to kill and feast on livestock while they sleep. Zambi & Chikoka, if unprotected, would have already fallen victim. But, as we hear the yipping sounds of the coyotes when they’re approaching a potential meal right behind our home, we hear the fierce and confident barking of the protector.

Kavik rises from his rest and runs directly towards the pack of predators. As he barks, warning them to leave his property, the yipping sounds of at least five coyotes can be heard. The battle continues until the sound of the coyotes start to fade in the distance and all thats left is the sound of Kavik running the perimeter of the pasture fence, giving stern deep barks, as he checks its security. There is again silence as they sleep, safe and sound.

This recurs night after night as Kavik stays on guard to protect his home and the lives of his goats. Its almost as if he knows how the goats helps families in Zambia afford education and food simply by being part of the mission’s project: and he is doing his part.

The devil is a predator who comes to kill, steal & destroy. Who do WE have on guard? Are we remembering to call on the Holy Spirit to keep watch over our home while WE sleep? And do we consciously walk with Christ while we are awake so that we can defeat the enemy daily? We must always be on guard, adorned with the full armor of God, so we can stand against the devils schemes, because our battle also comes to us as packs of predators in the darkness. We must never let our Light go out.

-Ephesians 6:10-18
