We are so blessed by the outpouring of love for our brothers and sisters in Jaranwala, Pakistan where over 600 homes were burned during the Muslim attacks against Christians in August 2023. Some of the homes had families barricaded inside before being set on fire. The homes with families who escaped to the fields returned to find everything destroyed and laying in piles of smoldering rubble... all because those families do not follow the Muslim faith and rather believe in the One True God: the same God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yahweh, the God of Miracles whose Son, Jesus Christ, was resurrected from death to life and by His blood, and if we believe, we can be saved. It is by Grace, not by works, that we receive this gift of God. The Muslim community does not want them believing this way and there were extremists who decided to take matters in their own hands.
Evangelist, Brother Sunil Hammayun and his team from a neighboring colony were concerned for the lives of their own families during this act of Jihad, but their unwavering call to the Gospel of Christ gave them the boldness they needed to face this attack with a game-plan. Brother Sunil immediately began to comfort the victims with the love of Christ. He spoke on local television broadcasts to bring awareness about the brutal attack on the Christian community, and met with Muslim leaders at their mosques asking them to stop hate speeches against Christians and to instead promote living in solidarity. There on the front line, putting their own lives at risk, Brother Sunil and his team were the feet and arms of Jesus. Yet, they needed to gather provisions because children and adults were hungry and thirsty from sleeping in the fields with nothing but the hope that Jesus would hear their cries for help. That’s where we were able step up and be a Light during what is called the darkest moment in the history of Jaranwala. Through the selfless giving of funds by those who donated for this cause in the Name of Jesus, Mercy Unveiled received enough to help 350 families that lost everything!
As soon as the funds were received, Brother Sunil and his team set straight to work filling boxes full of dishes and kitchen utensils, food, and water; supplies necessary to sustain life and assist them in starting over step by step. Each recipient was told these items are provided by Jesus and by their brothers and sisters in Christ from America. With grateful hearts they received these boxes of provisions. There were Muslims who accepted salvation in Christ. 12 people gave their life to Jesus and 5 people were baptized in Christ. Presently, Brother Sunil and his team is organizing to baptize more who have asked to receive Christ as Lord of their lives! Praise God!
As we claim and follow Christ, we should see it an honor to help others in His Name. He gave His own life for us out of Love, and He tells us that the greatest thing is Love. We should not stop until His Love permeates every heart that is open to Him! I am truly blessed by the outpouring of love that came in for these people as we show them our God is a God who truly cares! Our God can pick up the broken pieces and mend their hearts and minds in a way they could never even fathom otherwise.
“Thank God the Harvest is coming from this. People feel the Presence of the Lord in their homes and upon themselves when they received our gifts. So, we preached the Gospel to them and they said, ‘Baptize us in the Name of Jesus’. Thank God we were able to do this for them! Glory be to God!” -Evangelist Sunil Hammayun
Help is still needed as rebuilding needs to be done and food runs out. Linens and furniture and Bibles need to be replaced. These people are hard workers, but as we all know, rebuilding comes slow even with hard work. Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus tells His followers, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.”
Proverbs 19:17, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
Zechariah 7:9. This is what the Lord Almighty said: “Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.”
Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 25:37-40, “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ ”
